The Contec Global Group’s initiatives in the arena of Corporate Social Responsibility derive from our firm belief in the inherent potential, dignity and sovereignty of every individual and the interrelatedness of all forms of life and nature. We believe in creating abundance for all through empowerment of the underprivileged, as well as the protection of the planet’s finite resources through our various initiatives – big and small, directly and indirectly.

The Group follows the trusteeship model of Corporate Governance. The basic tenets of our governance model evolve from our strong belief in the ultimately ‘social’ nature of business, and our desire to be key participants in the overall economic and social development of the environment it which we operate. We believe that the true measure of success of the company lies in the fulfilment of our social responsibility towards the communities that each of the businesses serves.

CONTEC GLOBAL FOUNDATION

THE AFRICAN SECRETARIAT

The Contec Global Foundation is an NGO operating in Africa that focuses on a wide range of humanitarian activities, with an emphasis on grassroots initiatives that empower individuals and groups to positively impact their environment.

These include making available physical and financial resources in the form of educational programs, computer equipment, healthcare facilities, and infrastructure grants, so that underprivileged strata of society are empowered to make positive changes in their own environment.

JAAGO BHARAT

Literally translated, Jaago Bharat means ‘Wake Up India’.

Jaago Bharat is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that looks at the various issues that affect the general populace of the nation, with the overriding theme that we, as individual citizens, have not just a say, but a responsibility to act, in order to impact change in our respective environments. The goal of Jaago Bharat is to play an enabling, empowering and advocating role, and to bridge the gap between resources and key social issues.

The organization adopts a flexible approach in identifying concern areas, deliberately not limiting itself to any narrowly defined agenda. Our operative methodology involves tackling issues on project-based terms, thereby acting as catalysts for sustainable change in a multitude of areas. We believe that the positive spin-offs of such a modus operandi are vast, and, more importantly, self-sustaining.

With over a billion inhabitants, we believe that the population of this great and vibrant nation is not a problem in and of itself. It is, we believe, on the contrary, a tremendous

force – which if harnessed appropriately can be its greatest strength. This is the power of democracy in its true essence.

The African Secretariat is, in principle, one of the Contec Global Group’s most ambitious initiatives in terms of scope and scale.

At its most basic level, it is conceptualized to serve as a bridge between Africa and the rest of the world, facilitating exchange on every platform from promoting cultural exchange, to facilitating trade, business and investment at every level.

Despite various efforts at integrating Africa and the rest of the World in terms of economic development and co-operation in the areas of economy and infrastructure, the on-ground reality is far different than what is showcased. The irony of the situation is that in reality most of Africa has an overabundance of natural and human resources that are not being tapped due to a variety of reasons, mostly political.

Our intention is not to undertake ‘humanitarian’ initiatives in the form of ‘aid’ – but to channelize the interchange of energies at every level of human activity into and out of this great continent and bring it to the forefront of the world stage.

Contec Global’s longstanding presence in Africa has led to a very special affinity with this great continent. The group believes that it can make a substantial contribution in bridging the divide between Africa and the rest of the world. In the first stage of its plans, the African Secretariat has begun operations to implement its vision by serving as an interface between Africa and India.

Its overall activities will be facilitated by encouraging economic cooperation, including significant private sector involvement between India and Africa, thereby evolving a self-sustaining operational model, and we expect to rapid progress to a stage where the Secretariat serves as an interface between Africa and the rest of the world.
